In the footsteps of Giants

The Giants Causeway near Bushmills on the Antrim coast is a geological wonder. 40,000 interlocking hexagonal basalt columns spread out as the fallout of a volcanic fissure eruption a long while ago. The name is a tribute to the Gaelic legend of Finn Mc Cool - who took a challenge to fight the Scottish giant Benandoner. Benandoner built the causeway and arrived for the fight, but Finn's astute wife dressed him up as a baby to psyche Benandoner into destroying the causeway and fleeing to Fingal's cave in Scotland, a smaller mirror image of the causeway.
