Cong Shen
I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of University of Virginia. I got my B.S. and M.S. from Tsinghua University, and Ph.D. from UCLA. I received the NSF CAREER award in 2022.
My research interests span a number of interdisciplinary topics in machine learning, communications, and networking, with an emphasis on theoretical models, algorithms, and practical engineering applications. Some of my current research topics are:
Federated learning and distributed/decentralized learning
Multi-armed bandits and reinforcement learning
Wireless communications and networking

Sept. 2022: I am appointed as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Machine Learning in Communications and Networking.

Aug. 2022: I was awarded a CCI CVN Innovation and Commercialization Grant to develop our FL platform.
Aug. 2022: Our research group participated in two outreach programs over the summer.
Aug. 2022: Ph.D. students returned to school from summer internships: Chengshuai Shi with Bloomberg, Kun Yang with Intel Labs, and Yujia Mu with Dropbox.
