Summary:

Zongli Lin's research interest lies in the general area of systems and control theory and their applications to practical systems. His research topics have included nonlinear control theory, robust control theory, control systems with actuator saturation, flight controls, modeling and control of magnetic bearing systems such as high speed energy staorage flywheels and artificial heart pumps.

Background:

Zongli Lin received his B.S. degree in mathematics and computer science from Xiamen University, Xiamen, China, in 1983, his Master of Engineering degree in automatic control from Chinese Academy of Space Technology, Beijing, China, in 1989, and his Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from Washington State University, Pullman, Washington, in May 1994. From July 1983 to July 1986, Dr. Lin worked as a control engineer at Chinese Academy of Space Technology. In January 1994, he joined the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics, State University of New York at Stony Brook as a visiting assistant professor, where he became an assistant professor in September 1994. Since July 1997, he has been with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Virginia, where his is currently an associate professor.
