Summary:
Mircea Stan specializes in low-power VLSI with emphasis on embedded systems and portable applications. His research interests include low-power encoding methods and circuits, computer-aided design for high-level power estimation, circuit design for novel low-power devices, and low-power system integration.
Background:
Mircea R. Stan was awarded the Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest, Romania in 1984, and the M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1994 and 1996, respectively. Dr. Stan joined the faculty in 1996. He has published more than ten refereed articles as well as many book reviews and design ideas in professional magazines. He has worked as a research and design engineer in Romania, Japan, and the United States. He is a member of IEEE, the Association for Computing Machinery, and Usenix, as well as Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Xi. He is the faculty adviser to the UVa student branch of the IEEE.
