SENIOR SCIENTIST
The University of Virginia’s Charles L. Brown Dept.
of Electrical and Computer Engineering is seeking an exceptionally
qualified candidate to fill a part or full time position of
a Senior Scientist. The position will be fully funded through
research grants (soft money). Duties include the development
of new spectroscopic instrumentations, THz sensors design
and implementation, biomolecular FTIR Terahertz spectroscopy
and molecular electronic devices. Extensive experience in
electronics and biological materials, processing, optimization
and characterizations is required. Strong candidate also must
have the expertise in operation and maintenance of FTIR spectrometers,
cryogenic systems, FTIR sample preparation and development
of suitable techniques of solid and aqueous samples preparation,
purification and characterization of biological and other
materials.A doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics
or equivalent and at least 10 years of experience is required.
The candidate is expected to lead the experimental portion
of an externally funded research project and interact with
other team members on a daily basis. Candidate must possess
5+ years of funded research experience in a technical readership
capacity. Also required proven academic achievements and published
research in THz spectroscopy, THz sensors, excellent verbal
and written communication skills.Interested candidates must
send resume, names and contact information of at least three
references by May 9, 2008 by mail to Dr. Tatiana Globus, University
of Virginia, 351 McCormick Rd. P.O. Box 400743 Charlottesville,

Research Associate ( Postdoctoral)
Position in Metal-organic Chemical Vapor Deposition Growth
A postdoctoral position in the newly created
Metal-organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) lab at The
University of Virginia is available starting in late 2007
or early 2008. The MOCVD lab will conduct research in compound
semiconductor growth for optoelectronic devices. The applications
for these devices include communications, single photon counting,
medical diagnostics, and thermal imaging. Future research
areas that will be pursued in the MOCVD lab include quantum
dots, nanowires, photovoltaics, and spintronics. Competitive
candidates are expected to have prior experience in the operation
of MOCVD system, basic materials characterization techniques
for compound semiconductor materials , and presenting data
in publications and at national and international conferences.
Previous experience with device processing and testing is
desired, but not required for this position.
To apply send a cover letter,
CV, and contact information for three references to:
